Joint Report on the case of A. Chalabyan

On December 21, 2023, the court issued the ruling on the case of public and political figure Avetik Chalabyan, for 2.5 years depriving him of the right to organize rallies and participate in other public events or assemblies, as well as to change his place of residence.

The human rights organizations “Helsinki Committee of Armenia” (HCA) and “Armenian Center for Political Rights” (ACPR) condemn the ruling and the prosecution of A. Chalabyan, consider it politically motivated, discriminatory in nature and not up to the international standards of human rights assumed by the Republic of Armenia (RA).

This report presents the grounds for the Organizations’ claims and the description of events and legal processes in the context of the commitments undertaken and international standards assumed by RA in the field of human rights.
